Before leaving for Japan, Bromell was the fastest runner in the world in 2021, with a time of 9 seconds 77 in the US 100m race selection competition in Florida on June 5. The 26-year-old athlete is therefore the number one candidate for the Olympic gold medal in the king of athletics distance.

However, when entering the competition at Tokyo 2020, Bromell suddenly dropped in form when he only received tickets to the semi-finals with a record of 10 seconds 05 in the qualifying round. And on the semi-final run at the Olympic Stadium, Sapporo this afternoon of August 1, the runner born in 1995 only reached 10 seconds. This result made Brommel third in the run and 10th out of 24 athletes competing in the semi-finals. Only the nine highest achieving athletes entered the medal competition.

Bromell was once the first teen athlete to surpass the 10-second mark in the 100m distance, when he won the 2014 NCAA US student sports championship with a time of 9 seconds 97, when he was a freshman at Baylor University. Currently, 9 seconds 97 is still the record of teenage athletes.

Bromell injured an achilles sprain and had to race against time to return to Rio 2016. He recovered in time, but only finished eighth, finishing last in the 100m final. Bromell was then constantly tormented by injuries and only returned to his best form in 2021.
