The Professional Golf Association of America (PGAA) on September 7 announced Jon Rahm won the title of this organization for outstanding achievements in the PGA Tour 2020-2021 season.

The PGAA awards the “Excellent Golfer” every year, since 1948, based on championship points of which 30 are for major, official prize money and average number of strokes per round.

Rahm finished first with 75 points overall, 5 points more than Bryson DeChambeau second. Last year, Rahm finished second, 10 points away from title holder Justin Thomas. This year’s race saw four finalists – Rahm, DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay.

All season, Rahm won only one championship – major US Open in June, with 30 points. On September 5, the Spanish player added 5 points despite not winning the Tour Championship – the final event of the PGA Tour 2020-2021. At the event of applying the entry advantage, the world’s number one golfer finished second (point -20), behind Cantlay. However, PGAA only took 72 standard holes, so Rahm and Kevin Na shared 10 points due to T1 with a score of -14 on par70.

Rahm all reached the maximum – 20 points in the other two criteria, including a prize money of $7.7 million and an average of 69.3 strokes per round. This stat also helped him take the Vardon trophy in the PGAA season finale.

Last season’s PGA Tour schedule includes 50 stages. Rahm won 22 awards, of which 15 times were in the top 10 finalists. As for the major, Rahm finished in the top 10 five times. The prestigious prize pool last season came to six events due to the addition of the US Open and the Masters, all of which were out of season because of Covid 19.

After the award at the PGAA, Rahm also entered the final list in the poll for the title of the same name on the PGA Tour. This front, in addition to Rahm, DeChambeau, Cantlay, Morikawa, noted Harris English. Unlike the PGAA scoring system, the PGA Tour’s “Outstanding Golfer” is based on an internal vote of its members. Results will be announced this month.

The PGAA was founded in 1929, initially as the governing body of the PGA Tour. America’s first-class golf arena has been independent from the PGAA since 1968. Although they operate separately, they still share the name “Excellent Golfer”.

These two titles over 27 consecutive years on the same owner. The “double trend” ended two years ago. In 2019-2020, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas took the PGAA’s award respectively, while Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson took turns being honored on the PGA Tour.
