Triathlon, Jiujitsu, Bowling and Esport were added, bringing the total number of SEA Games 31 competitions in Vietnam in 2021 to 40.
Minister of Culture – Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien signed the decision approving the “Overall Project to prepare and organize 31 SEA Games” with 36 subjects on July 13. After that, countries in Southeast Asia submitted a proposal to add 24 subjects and subjects.
After considering and negotiating, host Vietnam and other countries in the region agreed to hold four more events at the 31st SEA Games, including Triathlon, Jiujitsu, Bowling and Esport. In which Triathlon has four competition contents, Jujitsu, Bowling and E-Sport all have six competitions.

SEA Games 31 will take place from November 21, 2021 to December 2, 2021, with 40 sports events in Hanoi and some neighboring cities and provinces such as Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc and Bac Gian. Two important ceremonies are the Opening (November 21) and the closing (December 2), taking place at My Dinh National Stadium.
The Vietnamese sports delegation aims to win at least 70 gold medals, to be in the top 3. At the congress held in the Philippines in 2019, Vietnam ranked second with 98 gold, 85 silver and 105 bronze medals. In the first SEA Games held at home in 2003, Vietnam won the group with 158 gold, 97 silver and 91 bronze medals.
