With this result, the US golf arena for the second time within a week had to use a play-off series to determine the champion. At the Travelers Championship, Harris English was crowned only after defeating Kramer Hickok in eight extra holes. It was the second longest playoff in PGA Tour history, dating back to 1929 – when it was still under the American Professional Golf Association.
On July 4, on par 72 at the Detroit Golf Club, Davis beat Merritt with a putter than a par on the fifth extra hole. Before this phase, Davis misread the hole line, so he broke the putt 3.6 meters away. Three duels with Merritt before that, Davis twice missed the opportunity to finish the competition within 5.4 meters.
At the beginning of the playoffs was Joaquin Niemann. However, the Chilean golfer was disqualified due to bogey on the first extra hole. This is an unfortunate ending because he did not bogey during the four main rounds. As for the 72nd standard hole, Niemann had a chance to win, but missed the putter to find the birdie, five meters away.
At the beginning of the finish line Niemann and Merritt started the last leg, Davis was one hole ahead of them. Near the end of the round, Davis just mutated the achievement, with the eagle hole 17 from the bunker and 15.2 meters away.

Then, he birdie the 18th hole with a 1.9 meter putt to finish at the top of the table with -18 points.
Meanwhile, Niemann and Merritt were also -18 when leaving the 17th hole. However, both kept par at the bottom of the field, so they had to playoff with the Australian player.
Davis received $ 1.35 million, while Merritt and Niemann equal prize money for T2 – $ 667,500. The award recognizes only one Asian representative in the final top 40, which is Im Sung-jae in T8 (score -15).
The final round recorded three golfers hitting 64 strokes, at the same time setting the peak of 18 holes at this year’s tournament.
Davis was born in 1995, has been playing professionally for five years. With the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Davis won the PGA Tour for the first time, after 71 attempts.
