When Garrick Higgo won the Palmetto Championship, the US golf arena for the 2020-2021 season recorded the second South African golfer to be crowned this season.

Higgo finished first at -11, received 1.314 million on the Congaree, par71 in South Carolina closed the curtain on the morning of June 14, Hanoi time. Before Higgo, fellow senior Branden Grace won the Puerto Rico Open at the end of February.

Higgo was born in 1999, entered professional golf two years ago and has won three Cups in the main European Tour arena.

Higgo, through just two events, has achieved a breakthrough victory with a full-time slot on the PGA Tour until the end of 2023. He first attended this tournament system at the major PGA Championship and finished T64 on May 23.

At the end of the Palmetto Championship, Higgo had to wade upstream, “escape” the penultimate hole and ask Chesson Hadley to bogey all three last holes.

Early in the game, he was six strokes behind Hadley. At the end of nine holes, he considered breakeven because two birdies offset two bogeys. In the second half, Higgo scored an eagle on the 12th, par5 hole, after playing 364 yards to the left of the fairway, adding 183 yards to the green and then a putt 2.8 meters from the hole. On the 14th hole, he closed the birdie with a seven-meter putt.

After this phase, Higgo was two strokes from Hadley.

On the par4 17th hole, Higgo missed the fairway on both first shots – into the wasteland and forest respectively, but still got onto the green properly on the third shot and finished with a 2.7-meter putt. After adding par on the last hole with a light knock, Higgo finished first at the top of the table with a score of -11 with the ability to play extra holes. But as it turned out, he didn’t have to fight anymore because Hadley had trouble at the end.

After hole 15, Hadley still led Higgo two strokes (point -13). However, the former PGA Tour champion – at the 2014 Puerto Rico Open – lost his advantage and fell behind after playing in the wasteland on hole 16, in the sand on hole 17, on the green beyond the standard on hole 18. All three mistakes led. to bogey, Hadley had to regret about T2 at -10, receiving 411,230 USD. Besides him, there are five other players with the same prize, including Tyrrell Hatton ranked 11th in the world (OWGR table).

“The last game was really bad. Maybe watching TV will know how bad I am”, Hadley self-assessed personal performance at the end of the tournament.

OWGR top golfer Dustin Johnson is just one stroke from Hadley thanks to three birdies on the 10-13 hole. However, a triple bogey on the 16th hole made him lose the title race and then ranked T10 with a score of -8.
