Amy Olson took the lead at -4 by hitting 67 strokes, including the American Golf Association’s (USGA) women’s first-round major hole-in-one in Houston on December 10.

The tournament took place on both par71 courses including Cypress Creek and Jackrabbit of the Champions Golf Club. This is the solution to ensure schedule in the day setting is shorter than night and the roster is up to 156 golfers.

Olson joined from hole 10 of Cypress Creek and scored a bogey across six holes. At the 16 par3 hole, 141 yards long, she kicked the ball with the 8 iron. It went to the green, held the flag and slowly rolled into the hole.

This is Olson’s second ace at the LPGA Tour and 29th in the history of the US Women’s Open. Last time, she was congratulated by many people. This time due to a closed battle, she only shared the joy with a few tournament supervisors, two team players and three caddy.

“I’m 141 yards away from the flag, the crat on the right is green and the wind is going to the left. So I chose the fade line to compensate for the deflection. I saw it land on the green, jerk off the spin and then in. The group watched. It was fun from start to finish, “Olson said of the strategic intentions of hole 16.

In fade trajectory, the ball lifts left to target but then back to right. After that, Olson added three birdies, thereby leading the team to compete for the title with one stroke against T2 (score -3), including Moriya Jutanugarn, Kim A Lim and Hinako Shibuno – the major Women’s Open champion 2019. Immediately after them are T5 (-2) and T12 (-1) respectively. In this segment there are six amateur players.

Olson has played the LPGA Tour for seven years, but has yet to win. She finished T2 at the Evian Championship 2018 – the highest individual achievement in the women’s major arena including five events.

Sung Yu Jin is also a hole-in-one on Cypress, but in hole 3 par3, 169 yards long.

However, Sung came five bogeys and a double bogey in the 76-stroke scoreboard. Therefore, she stands on T108 with a score of +5.

The opening day of the tournament recorded only 36 players achieving par or negative scores in both competitions. Chinese Golfer Jing Yan is late for the morning start on Cypress Creek. Therefore, she was fined two strokes, counted towards the first hole of the first round of hole 1. Yan latched this hole birdie but had to score bogey on the scoreboard.

Meanwhile, the world’s top four scored positive, with Ko Jin Young and Nelly Korda both 73 strokes and Kim Sei Young and Danielle Kang with 72. With Korda standing in T55, alongside defending champion Lee6 Jeongeun while Kim and Kang were in T37.

The start of the second round, December 11, will be earlier than originally planned due to bad weather forecast.

After Park Inbee won the 2008 US Open so far, only three local golfers can win the major American championship including Paula Creamer (2010), Michelle Wie (2014) and Brittany Lang (2016).
