Mr. Khoi defended the national rapid flag

Anh Khoi won six, drew three games, including a victory over Tran Tuan Minh – the winner of the lightning game on March 21. Mr. Khoi drew two direct competitors – Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Le Tuan Minh. In the end, Le Tuan Minh and Truong Son got 7 points, finishing second and third.

In the women’s rapid chess content, the number one player Pham Le Thao Nguyen also defended the throne. Thao Nguyen – Truong Son’s wife – won 7.5 points. Nguyen Thi Mai Hung came in second, also with 7.5 points, but behind Thao Nguyen in the sub-index. The third place unexpectedly belonged to Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien – the player with the 26th original Elo.

Mr. Khoi is a freshman at VinUni University, majoring in Medical Doctor. This year’s tournament, he played only fast and lightning. Thao Nguyen won the national rapid chess championship for the fourth consecutive year.

The national chess tournament for LienVietPostBank Cup, also known as A1 tournament, took place from March 21 to March 30 at the Stadium District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The tournament had selected 130 participating players, from 15 delegations, gathered all the top players in Vietnam, except for Le Quang Liem who could not attend because he was in the US. They played three events: lightning, fast and standard flags, in that order. In the lightning flag, Tran Tuan was the most male and Nguyen Thien Ngan the most female.

The most anticipated content – the standard flag – takes place from March 24 to March 30. Chess players with high results on the standard chess can be selected for the SEA Games at the end of the year, or international tournaments.
