Around 3 am on May 16, Fau Vake was seriously injured and hospitalized in critical condition, because he was attacked by a group of people while waiting for a taxi in Auckland city, New Zealand.
More than 100 people visited and prayed for Vake. Many famous fighters such as UFC champion Israel Adesanya, boxer Junior Fa and MMA fighter Mark Hunt have sent words of encouragement to Vake.
However, Vake did not survive after a week of treatment. City Kickboxing – where Vake practices MMA – confirmed this boxer passed away on May 23.
“This is an unfathomable sadness, when Vake was unable to find his way back to life after seven days of fighting in the hospital,” the statement read. “During this time of grief, the Vake family and City Kickboxing would like to take some time to remember Vake – a beloved father, son and brother. We will announce at the appropriate time to make sure Fau’s loss is not forgotten. But for now, please respect our privacy.”

According to the The Herald, four men, aged 29 to 32, were arrested following the incident. Two have been charged with assault, one faces assault with intent to cause injury, and one is charged with willful bodily harm. The cause of the assault is unknown at this time.
Fau Vake has a record of two wins in the amateur arena. He is married and has a three-year-old daughter.
