On the closing day of the tournament on March 28, Horschel lost three consecutive holes, drew two holes, then led all 14 holes. The whole match for the title, he only had a birdie, the rest of the opponent.

After joining the hole – hole 1, Horschel was at a disadvantage from hole 2 par4 because of the loss of the ball, a penalty of one stroke, two more shots to reach the green. Meanwhile, Scheffler two swings to the latch, 10.3 meters away with both a birdie chance and a par chance of losing two shots to finish his job. Although the opponent had to put down long range, Horschel admitted losing.

“I just saw a puzzling decision. Horschel was determined to lose against Scheffler’s possibility of two putt in the range of 10.3 meters. That could take up to three putt, or even more, under wind conditions like this.” Brandel Chamblee – veteran analyst from Golf Channel – comment.

Main developments in the final match between Horschel and Scheffler

From holes 3 to 4, Horschel was repeatedly led 1 Up. Into hole 5, he and Scheffler were both lucky. Both were damaged but the ball hit the tree trunk and hit the fairway.

The second shot, Horschel into the rough green on the right side of the green, and Scheffler lacked power. The fight ended quickly as Horschel won with a chip in his target’s mouth.

With the birdie from the green, Horschel leveled the game. The scene ended at hole 7, when Scheffler bogey. This 1996-born Golfer bogey again in hole 9, indirectly bringing Horschel 2 Up. He maintained this advantage over the next eight holes.

In this section, Scheffler had the opportunity to prolong the game, but the putt to find the birdie 3.3 meters away was not in hole 17. He had to finish second with a bonus of 1.15 million USD.

With the WGC-Dell Match Play 2021, Horschel was crowned for the sixth time at the PGA Tour. Born in 1986, playing professionally since 2009, he won the FedEx Cup in 2014.
