Bryson DeChambeau deepened his discord with Brooks Koepka by deliberately appearing when his fellow American was giving an interview to Golf Channel on the opening day of the US Open.

On June 17, Koepka hit 69 strokes in the opening round of a major organized by the American Golf Association on South Torrey Pines, par71 in San Diego. At the end of the match, he was contacted by reporter Todd Lewis from Golf Channel interview. When he was about to shoot, DeChambeau suddenly walked across the frame, even intentionally revealing his face by flying people.

The Koepka recording session coincided with DeChambeau on his way to the next hole. “Everybody thought I was going to do something in the PGA Championship, but in the end nothing happened. Today, I saw the opportunity to play a little,” explained DeChambeau after closing the 73rd round.

He and Koepka have been tense with each other for the past month, with the moment “detonating” on the closing day of the PGA Championship on May 23. At that time, Koepka shared her opinion, also in front of the camera Golf Channel after finishing T2 at the major that he won in 2018 and 2019.

Then DeChambeau suddenly walked by muttering his personal style judgment at a volume loud enough to get into the microphone. This action caused Koepka to lose focus and expressed annoyance. The video of that moment then went viral on social media.

Two weeks after the PGA Championship, DeChambeau attended and Koepka did not play Memorial on the PGA Tour. At this tournament, DeChambeau was mocked by the crowd of Koepka supporters loudly on the field, so much so that he had to ask security staff to expel the extremists. Before this development, Koepka posted on Twitter a “thank you fans” video with a pledge to serve beer to all fans who were kicked out of Memorial.

Koepka was born in 1990 and DeChambeau is three years younger than him. A few days before the US Open 2021, both commented that the discord between golf stars, including them, is also beneficial for the sport because it attracts more attention from the public through media coverage.

DeChambeau and Koepka have both won the US Open. DeChambeau won last year and is defending the title, while Koepka won two titles in 2017, 2018. If you consider the PGA Tour in general, both also have eight titles. Considering the history of world rankings (OWGR), DeChambeau has not been number one and has held the position for a total of 47 weeks like his senior. Even so, he is currently fifth in the OWGR, five places above Koepka.
