Oscar de la Hoya, the welterweight legend who last fought in December 2008, will face former UFC champion Vitor Belfort on August 11.

De la Hoya and Belfort plan to play the show. But the fight that took place on September 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles was counted as a professional match, after the California State Athletic Commission approved.

However, De La Hoya, 48, and Belfort, 44, must pass the mandatory medical examinations for boxers over 40 in order for the fight to be officially licensed. This procedure includes examination of the brain, heart, neurocognitive, and ophthalmology.

Follow ESPN, the fight between De La Hoya and Belfort will take place in eight rounds of two minutes each, although professional boxing matches usually last three minutes each round. The two boxers have a weight restriction in the next encounter, with a limit of 81.6 kilograms. However, the two boxers may have a difference of about 2.2 kilograms.

The next match is organized by Triller – the producer who is managing the fights of American Youtuber Jake Paul. Triller also hosted a performance match between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. on 11/28/2020. These two boxers that day were tied with the scores from three guest referees of 76-76, 79-73, 76-80. Tyson and Jones Jr. All received special belts, titled “Frontline Battle”, awarded by the WBC.

Hollywood film producer Ryan Kavanaugh, co-founder of Triller, is delighted that De la Hoya and Belfort’s fight counts as a pro. He said: “It is important to stay away from performance matches. The next fight will be as intense as the matches that De la Hoya or Belfort have attended, not arranged like wrestling matches.”

Oscar De La Hoya was once dubbed the “Golden Boy” after winning the 1992 Olympic gold medal in Barcelona. De La Hoya is also the first boxer to win the world championship in six different weight classes.

During his career, the American boxer won 39, with 30 being knockouts, and lost only six fights. De La Hoya retired after losing to Manny Pacquiao at the end of 2008, and switched to being a showman, with a company named after his nickname – Golden Boy Promotions. This company organizes many big fights for boxers like Ricky Hatton, Canelo Alvarez, Victor Oztiz, Pacquiao, Amir Khan…

De La Hoya’s next opponent – Belfort is considered a legend of the MMA village. Belfort has more than 25 years of playing professionally, being a UFC 12 heavyweight champion, former UFC welterweight champion, and Cage Rage. The 44-year-old Brazilian boxer signed with ONE Championship last year, but could not compete because of the epidemic.
