The American Professional Golf Association (PGAA) has unilaterally terminated the contract to host the PGA Championship 2022 at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

“After an internal vote, the Board of Directors decided not to host the PGA Championship 2022 at Trump Bedminster. The presence of the tournament here would damage the PGAA brand and bring risks to golf development programs. and implement our mission in the long term, “a statement from PGAA on 10/1 quoted President Jim Richerson.

Trump National Golf Club Bedminster is owned and operated by the Trump Organization, and the outgoing US President Donald Trump is the owner of the corporation.

Four days before the PGAA announcement, a crowd of supporters Trump flooded the Capitol in Washington as the US Congress was about to approve the results of the new presidential election, with the advantage in Joe Biden’s favor. The riots killed five people.

“Through our mission and our brand, we work for the benefit of our members, for the growth of golf. And with that, we will protect those missions in the best way. January 6 made us feel unable to organize the tournament at Bedminster. There is a lot of potential damage that cannot be repaired, so it is best for us to leave, “explained Seth Waugh – CEO of PGAA. AP. Waugh declined to comment on the possibility of being sued by her partner.

On ABC News, a Trump Organization spokesman said the group “invested millions of dollars in the PGA Championship 2022, was deeply disappointed by the PGAA’s decision and insisted the organization has no right to cancel the deal unilaterally”.

The contract to hold PGA Championship 2020 was signed in May 2014, before Trump announced his candidacy for US President. He was on the field when Trump Bedminster hosted the US Women’s Open 2017 – the major of the American Golf Association (USGA). That same year, the PGAA hosted the senior PGA Championship on Trump’s field in upstate Washington.

It’s not the first time the PGAA stops a scheduled event at a pitch owned by the Trump Organization. In 2015, the two sides agreed to stop the Grand Slam of Golf, scheduled in Los Angeles, after Trump spoke contemptuously about Mexican immigrants during a voter campaign. The PGAA later canceled the event because it could not find a new host.

PGAA was established in 1916, originally comprised of professional players and golf coaches. In 1968, the professional group established the PGA Tour and has operated up to now. PGAA currently has approximately 29,000 individual members. In Scotland, Trump is the owner of the Turnberry Stadium, repeatedly hosting The Open Championship – major of Royal & Ancient (R&A). But since Trump was elected President, R&A has eliminated Turnberry from the round of 10 rotating tournament venues.

The Blue Monster Stadium of Trump Doral in Miami is the WGC – Cadillac Championship match spot from 2007-2016. However, from 2017 – the same year Trump took office, the tournament moved to Mexico.
