The US sports team teased Durant while waiting for the parade

During the opening ceremony of the 2021 Olympic Games on July 23, the United States was among the lateest marching sports delegations. While waiting to step out of the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, 200 American athletes and other sports teams sang the song “Happy Birthday” to celebrate Kevin Durant’s birthday. The NBA superstar was uncomfortable with the “troll” of his colleagues. But Durant’s shy appearance made those who tease him even more excited.

Durant’s prankster is said to be Bam Adebayo – his teammate on the US basketball team. A few days earlier, Durant and Adebayo exchanged words on the training ground, when Adebayo refused to give the ball to Durant after a three-pointer in the corner of the Brooklyn Nets superstar.

Like the previous Olympics, the US is the number one candidate for the men’s basketball championship. In the US squad to Tokyo, Kevin Durant is considered the biggest star. In the group stage, the US will meet France in the opening match on July 25, before facing Iran (July 28) and the Czech Republic (July 31).

Since 1992, the US has only missed the gold medal in men’s basketball once, at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Kevin Durant was part of the team that won gold at the last two Olympics, in London and Rio de Janeiro.

The US sports delegation attended the 2020 Olympics with the most powerful force. 613 athletes marched with female basketball star Sue Bird and baseball player Eddy Alvarez. At the previous Olympics in Rio, the US topped the overall table with 46 gold medals, far ahead of the remaining teams.
