Reaching -14 and leading five strokes after 54 holes, rookie Patty Tavatanakit broadly won the major event of the LPGA Tour with a prize fund of 3.1 million USD in California.

The tournament started on April 1 on par72. Tavatanakit hit 66 and 69 strokes respectively, thereby taking the top of the table during the first two rounds, leading one stroke a day. Yesterday, the Thai golfer finished the penultimate round of 67 strokes with a score of seven birdies and two bogeys. Separately these two technical negligence occurred in the back half of the field.

All the way, she reached 348 yards in two holes chosen by the LPGA Tour to record the average kicking distance, hit 10 of the 14 fairways, went green according to the 14-hole standard and 28 putt. Tavatanakit is 1.64 meters high. In the first three-hole birdie chain, she played 300, 337, and 360 yards respectively, partly thanks to the wind and terrain.

The 21-year-old player made full use of his forte to hit three in four par5 holes. And not only far, she also effectively handled close range, as shown by a six-meter putt in hole 4, sand trap next to the green of hole 9, but escaped and then a putt of 3.6 meters, brushed 4.5 meters of hole 11. All three situations are birdie.

Last year, the LPGA Tour was disturbed by Covid-19, so Tavatanakit was still a rookie despite the second season.

At -14 after three rounds, Tavatanakit hit the 54-hole ANA Inspiration record set by Pernilla Lindberg on the way to the coronation podium in 2018 and the overall performance ceiling at -19 belonged to Dottie Pepper in 1999.

After Tavatanakit is Ally Ewing and defending champion Lee Mirim at T2 with a score of -9. There are seven players from this group, including Ko Jin Young, who is at the top of the world women’s golf – Rolex Rankings, with three successful faces and major owners including Park Inbee, Lydia Ko, and Shanshan Feng.

ANA Inspiration over half a century recognized only one rookie champion – Juli Inkster in 1984.
