A shot from the lake helped Anne van Dam open the chance to score a birdie on the opening day of the LPGA Tour season.

Anne van Dam saves the ball from the water hole

Yesterday, van Dam joined from the tenth hole par72 of the Tiburon Golf Club. After 17 holes, she scored three birdies and two birdies. In the last hole – hole 9, par4, the Dutch golfer born in 1995 played approximately 310 yards. Although far beyond the common ground of the tournament and the LPGA Tour, the ball is in a difficult position – stuck in the thick grass near the edge of the lake on the left of the fairway.

After researching the situation, her own caddy advised her to wade into the water for her next shot instead of dropping the ball to the easier spot but being fined one stroke.

Dam agrees and takes off his shoes. “When I got down there, I was scared because I could meet a snake or something dangerous. I’m still a little girl,” Dam said, laughing as he recounted the situation after the round.

The water reached his ankles, the ball was still floating, but just below it was mud. 139 yards from target, Dam gets down on the pitching wedge. Mud and water splashed all over and the ball jumped onto the green and stopped three meters from the hole. “I hit really fast because it wasn’t fun standing there,” Dam said.

Dam’s handling made Karen Stupples – former LPGA Tour golfer currently a key field reporter Golf Channel exclaimed: “This is a magic shot. It is sporty.”

But Dam strangely damaged the birdie chance because he put the ball (putt) lacked force and closed the scoreboard with 71 strokes. The whole round she played averaged 292 yards, hit 11 of the 14 fairways, used a total of 31 putts after going to the standard green (GIR) in 14 out of 18 holes. Van Dam is at T24 with a score of -1, six strokes behind Lexi Thompson at the top.

Van Dam has been professional since 2015, starting with the Ladies European Tour and winning five titles. Last year, she was a newcomer to the LPGA Tour but has yet to win the championship.

This season, van Dam is second in the US women’s arena in terms of tee distance, averaging 281.14 yards, while achieving a GIR 70% over 45 rounds – or 13 events.
