Thai golfer wins ‘Excellent Major Player’ award

In this title race, Tavatanakit finished first with 80 points, two more points than the runner-up – Nelly Korda is leading the women’s golf world (Rolex Rankings). To be counted, players must finish in the top 10 majors. But to be eligible for the prize, they need to win at least one of the five in the prestigious prize pool.

The 2021 women’s major calendar includes ANA Inspiration, US Open, PGA and Evian Championship, Women’s Open, respectively. This season, Tavatanakit has just launched the LPGA Tour, leaving only the Evian Championship. She won ANA Inspiration, winning the T26 US Open, T5 PGA Championship and T7 Women’s Open.

Rolex Annika results were announced right after the last major, on August 22. The award ceremony will take place next November, during the closing event of the Tour Championship season.

Before the tournament, up to 13 gatekeepers beat Rolex Annika with the major championship organized by Royal & Ancient, in the 45th round at Carnoustie, Scotland. At that time, Korda held the first place, six points away from Tavatanakit. After the tournament, Tavatanakit added eight points thanks to T7 and Korda still got 78 points because of finishing T13.

Tavatanakit was born in 1999, belonged to the University of California golf team, Los Angeles campus before turning professional.

At ANA Inspiration in April, Tavatanakit led from the start and was crowned at -18. In 50 years of tournament history, she is the second rookie to win the championship. The first similar case was Juli Inkster in 1984. With Tavatanakit’s victory, the world professional golf village recorded two Thai golfers winning major. Ariya Jutanugarn fired the first cannon at the 2016 Women’s Open.
