Leading 54 holes at -17 with a three-stroke lead, Robert Streb is on his way to winning the second PGA Tour event in Sea Island, Georgia.

On November 21, Streb hit the penultimate round of 67 strokes with a clean bogey scoreboard and three birdies on Seaside, par70. He averaged 296 yards, hit 12 of the 14 fairways and went standard green in 15 out of 18 holes. And throughout the 54 holes, the player born in 1987 had only one bogey. Streb won the 2014 RSM Classic – his first and only title after 213 PGA Tour events.

Yesterday, Streb started to struggle due to having to fix technical errors in all three holes in the first round. Hole 1, par4, he hits the wasteland so he doesn’t reach two standard green strokes – “2 on”. But with “3 on”, his ball looks like “holding the flag” because it is less than a meter from the hole. Then he closed the hole at par.

Hole 2, par4, Streb hits the left side of the fairway. On the second, you have to hit against the wind, while the hole is in the back green. The distance to the goal is 123 yards, but his line lacks power and goes into the front green. Even so, he escaped bogey after two putt past 23 meters. Into hole 3, par3, Streb missed the green, had to chip the ball 17 meters into the hole, and then finished at the par point after the 2.1 meter drop.

“The entry didn’t go well. I had to keep holding par and trying to stabilize the shot. Fortunately things went up after that,” Streb said of the early round difficulty. After the par chain from hole 4 to hole 7, he scored the first birdie by using a bunker to escape the bunker to embrace the flag, and two more birdies in the second half of Seaside.

This week, Retreat Avenue leads into a stadium full of banners honoring champions RSM Classic. For the past three days, Streb has been looking at his banner. “This is the only place I have my own banner,” Streb said. He is ranked 380th on the men’s golf world rankings.

Six years ago, Streb doubles the RSM Classic for a kick in the bush. After three rounds, he ranked 12th in the trophy group and five strokes behind the top. However, in the last round he hit 63 strokes, entered the three-way playoff, then won the birdie championship in the second sub-hole. At that time, Maggie – his wife was pregnant with her first child. And Streb went to eat ice cream at Dairy Queen the night before winning.

They are two children now. This week, both his family and his wife’s family are on Sea Island. The Dairy Queen store was closed, but Streb said she would take the family away to enjoy the “good luck” dish, also the night before the closing ceremony. .

When entering the final round of November 22, following Streb were six candidates in the range of five strokes including Zach Johnson – a native with two major in 12 PGA Tour titles. But since 2010, RSM Classic has not had a local champion.
