Victory at the Texas Open on April 4 helped former world number one golfer Jordan Spieth win his first Cup after nearly four years at the PGA Tour.

The last time Spieth won a title was The Open Championship in July 2017. Between its third major and the Texas Open over the weekend, the American golfer went through 82 PGA Tour events, including major, no titles.

Spieth was born in 1993, went professional in 2012 and took only five years to win three major out of 12 PGA Tour championships. In mid-August 2015, Spieth topped the men’s golf world rankings (OWGR table) with 26 weeks of accumulation in this position. But in nearly four years of decline, he once fell from the top to 82 by the end of 2020.

Before the 2021 Texas Open, Spieth was ranked 53rd in the world, thanks to four top 10 finishes across seven events. And with the event championship, Spieth went 38th while joining the group of five golfers holding at least 12 PGA Tour titles by age 28, alongside Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.

“This is an iconic victory for me, after a long struggle to return. There have been many times I’m not sure I can stand on the coronation podium like this. Sometimes I practice to burst my hand, go home. think about it and lose sleep because of that, “Spieth said during the award ceremony.

In the Texas Open finish line, Spieth hit 66 strokes on par 72, to win the title at -18 with a two-stroke final lead.

At the beginning of this stage, he stood T1 with Matt Wallace, while Charley Hoffman was third, two strokes away. All three are in the same starting group. Through three holes, Wallace and Hoffman only one birdie and Spieth thanks two birdies should monopolize the top of the table. In the second birdie at hole 3 par3, 174 yards long, Spieth goes green, 0.6 meters away.

After 15 holes, Spieth still led two strokes. But into hole 16, Hoffman birdie was six meters from the hole. Now, Hoffman, just a stick away, was the biggest threat to Spieth.

The former world number one, though, regained a two-stroke lead in hole 17 par4, 366 yards long with a birdie from a 295-yard shot then green and a putt 1.2 meters away. This is also the final difference of Spieth when the whole group keeps the last par.

All round, Spieth seven birdies and one bogey, Hoffman no bogey and six birdies and Wallace only earns two more sticks. Spieth got $ 1,386 million, Hoffman finished second with a bonus of $ 839,300, Wallace got $ 531,300 for third place (point -14).
