Le Quang Liem beat French number one Alireza Firouzja two games early on the evening of August 4, to enter the semi-finals of the Chessable Masters online chess tournament.
On the first day of competition in the quarterfinals of Chessable Masters on the evening of August 3, Hanoi time, Quang Liem defeated the prodigy Firouzja with a score of 3-1. In which, the Vietnamese player won two games with white pieces and drew two games with black pieces.
On the second day, the evening of August 4, Firouzja was forced to win to bring the match into the tie-break series. But, he lost the first two games and ended the match early. Because if Firouzja wins the other two games, he can’t turn the game around.

When Firouzja lost the second game on the evening of August 4, Quang Liem raised his hands in joy and smiled. For the first time, he reached the semi-finals of a Champions Chess Tour system – initiated by Chess King Magnus Carlsen. He did that by winning the gap against the world number 12 and the number one in France.

If a player draws on both days, or each wins one day and loses the other day, they will play a blitz tie-break to compete for the next spot.
Chessable Masters is the eighth stage of the Champions Chess Tour – the online chess tournament system for Chess King Magnus Carlsen initiated with a prize fund of 1.5 million USD. 16 players competed in a round-robin, selecting eight to enter the quarterfinals. Quang Liem ranked sixth after the circle, was underestimated but still won strongly against Firouzja. After the first quarter-final day, Quang Liem said that he was better prepared for this tournament.
Firouzja was born and raised in Iran, but recently converted to French citizenship in July 2021. The 18-year-old player is considered a prodigy, when he joined the Super Grandmasters group two years ago. He is also expected to compete for the title of Chess King in the future.
