Taking the lead after 54 holes at -7, Mickelson won the PGA Championship 2021 and set a record for the championship age of the traditional major quartet.

Mickelson won the 103rd major championship of the Professional Golf Association of America (PGAA) at the end of the second round, May 21. Yesterday, he maintained this position thanks to 70 strokes in the penultimate round, with five birdies, one bogey and one double bogey on the scoresheet. This stage, the 50-year-old American golfer reached 313.5 yards in two holes selected by the PGAA to record the average distance of the first shot. The whole match, the American player hit seven of the 14 fairways, going to the green according to the standard 13 holes.

“The past three days, I’ve been swinging effectively. Every shot opens up a bright picture. And now I need to maintain this form for the final round,” Mickelson on May 23 said about personal performance from the beginning of the tournament.

Following Mickelson on the closing day were 11 players in the six-stroke range, with Brooks Koepka the closest, with a score of -6. If he wins the final, Mickelson will be the oldest champion in the 105-year PGA Championship. Julius Boros holds this record by winning in 1968, when he was 48 years and 142 days old. This is also the age limit for championships in the traditional men’s major quartet, alongside the Masters, US Open and The Open Championship.
