McIlroy: ‘Tiger Woods will be released soon’

“Tiger is recovering. If nothing changes next week, he will leave the hospital, go back to his family and get home. We are looking forward to Tiger getting well,” McIlroy said on March 11, when as a guest on the golf show NBC.

Woods broke his right leg in a traffic accident near Los Angeles on February 23. He received emergency surgery at a medical center near the accident site, then was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Hospital for further treatment.

Woods’ own media team has failed to update the world’s number one former golfer health for two weeks. The last time – February 26, they announced “successful surgery and Woods mentally and physically”.

McIlroy also said he received two texts from Woods over the weekend. At that time, Woods encouraged McIlroy before and after the closing round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational – the PGA Tour event in Orlando. In this tournament, McIlroy hit 66 strokes, which led to the top of the group after the opening match but later T10 finished by hitting 76 strokes in the last round.

“Tiger sent a few words of encouragement before I got to the final round and the result was unsatisfactory. And he was the first to ask questions. Even on the hospital bed, Tiger made me fire like that”, McIlroy said.

Yesterday, McIlroy hit 79 strokes in the opening round of The Players Championship – the main event of the PGA Tour with a prize fund of $ 15 million on Stadium, par72. He is standing on T139 at the +7 point.

McIlroy has been playing golf professionally since 2007, 11 years behind Woods. Under 14 years old, but the Northern Ireland player born in 1989 belongs to the group of close friends of American golf superstars.
