AmericaChesson Hadley retains his membership next season thanks to a hole-in-one record and a mistake by former world number one Justin Rose in the final round of the Wyndham Championship, on August 15.

After the tournament, the top 125 FedEx Cup scoreboards this season will get tickets to the full season of the PGA Tour 2021-2022.

Before the event, Hadley ranked 132nd in the FedEx Cup, in the risk group to go down to the Korn Ferry Tour – the second-class system under the PGA Tour. Yesterday, he entered from the second half of Sedgefield Country Club, scoring three birdies through the first four holes of the round. The next two holes, Hadley considered “break even”, because the turn bogey-birdie.

On the 16th hole, the American golfer suddenly scored a hole-in-one after playing with the 9 iron, 175 yards away. The ball lands on the back of the green and then back into the hole. The first time “one stroke finished the hole” PGA Tour and golf career, Hadley was extremely excited.

After the ace, Hadley added three birdies and didn’t bogey all the way to the end of the round, finishing at -12. With this achievement, Hadley is expected to be 126th in the FedEx Cup – one place below the relegation line. However, the player born in 1987 still has hope because the final round has not been completed.

Hadley waited for more than an hour, then Justin Rose accidentally became “saviour”. Rose followed Hadley, from hole 1, bogey on hole 14 and hole 18. As for the last green, Rose lost three strokes. In the end, Rose was in T10 with a score of -13 and Hadley at T15.

But in the FedEx Cup, he ranked 126th. In contrast, Hadley climbed to 125th, just one point ahead of Rose and successfully stayed in the relegation zone. Rose is not worried about the Korn Ferry Tour because she still has the privilege of being in First place until the end of the 2023-2024 season. Rose has won 10 PGA Tour championships including the 2013 major Masters. He topped professional golf in the world (OWGR table) in September 2018.

Two months ago, Hadley missed the opportunity to get a PGA Tour membership card for the next two seasons at the Palmetto Championship. At that time, he held the top of the table and led four strokes after 54 holes, but on closing day bogey all three holes at the end of the round, so he ended up finishing second, one stroke from the champion.

This time, if Rose didn’t miss the end of the Wyndham Championship, Hadley had to return to the Korn Ferry Tour to play the grand finals for three consecutive weeks to compete for a place back on the PGA Tour.

Hadley has been playing professionally since 2010, earning $9.025 million through 197 PGA Tour events, but has only won once – the 2014 Puerto Rico Open.

Wyndham Championship takes place at Sedgefield Country Club, par70 and closes the regular PGA Tour schedule. After the tournament, the top 125 FedEx Cup scoreboards entered the playoff series, respectively, including Northern Trust-BMW Championship-Tour Championship with a total prize fund of 60 million USD, including 15 million USD for the champion.
