Former American heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield will return to the ring in early June, but the opponent is not Mike Tyson.

According to the Sports Illustrated, Holyfield will broadcast with Kevin McBride on June 5. This will be a performance match lasting eight innings, two minutes each. However, Holyfield and McBride will not wear head guards.

On November 28, 2020, Mike Tyson also returned with a similar match against Roy Jones Jr. Through eight innings, the two American legends got together with the scores 76-76, 79-73, 76-80 from the three referees. After the battle, both boxers received a special title “Frontline Battle” awarded by the WBC.

Holyfield is 58 years old this year, retired since 2011. In his career, he has 44 victories with 29 knock-out times, 10 losses, two draws and one match without the final result. Holyfield is the only person to have won World Heavy Duty four times, winning the WBA, WBC and IBF titles in 1990, the WBA and IBF titles in 1993, and the WBA titles in 1996 and 2000.

McBride – Holyfield’s upcoming rival – has an unimpressive record of having never won a major belt. However, this 47-year-old boxer was the one who ended Mike Tyson’s career 16 years ago. In the match that took place on June 11, 2005, McBride proved overwhelming and caused Tyson to give up in the sixth half. “Mike Steel” hung up his gloves after this defeat.

Holyfield has been in contact with Tyson since last year wishing to have a third time with a rival rival. By the end of March, the Holyfield side announced that talks with Tyson had collapsed, when “Mike Steel” declined an offer of up to $ 25 million. Tyson later denied this information when he confirmed his rematch with Holyfield will take place on May 29 at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, USA. However, the two sides have yet to find a common voice and the match could not be held at the end of May as expected. Holyfield therefore had to choose another opponent to take the lead.

In his prime, Tyson twice competed against Holyfield, but both lost. On 9/11/1996, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Holyfield beat Tyson by a technical knockout in the 11th half to win the WBA and The Heavy Ring. Half a year later, Tyson was lost for biting Holyfield’s ear and creating the most noisy scandal in boxing history in the world.
