The fact that Covid-19 is well controlled and vaccination rates high in the US is good news for marathon runners. Therefore, the Boston Marathon 2021 still closes the date for October 11th. The 125th season, which is expected to be limited to about 20,000 attendees, is less than the average for previous years. In addition to the main prize, athletes can receive an additional $ 50,000 if they set a new record.

Boston Marathon is one of the six most prestigious marathons in the world under the World Marathon Majors system, next to the New York City Marathon, Chicago Marathon, London Marathon, Berlin Marathon and Tokyo Marathon. The Boston Marathon brings great economic benefits to the city. According to the Boston Marty Walsh prize pool, every year, this run brings in $200 million to the local economy, and about $36 million is donated by athletes to charitable causes.

To be able to participate in the Boston Marathon, athletes have to go through a very difficult entry-based screening process. The organizers of this run will accept athletes registered according to their performance from top to bottom, giving priority to those with high achievements in the following categories: 20 minutes more than prescribed, more than 10 minutes and more than 5 minutes.

According to statistics on the official Boston Marathon website, for many years now, the number of runners has been eliminated more and more, because the number of registered runners has increased, while the track is limited. In the last two years, the number of athletes eliminated was 5,000 people (2018) and nearly 8,000 people (2019).
