10 Vietnamese players enter the World Youth Chess Cup finals

On August 20, the final groups of the qualifying round ended, to select 10 people in each group to the final round. Vietnam participated in the qualifying round with 35 players in all 10 groups, with 10 qualified including Le Thai Hoang Anh, Tran Le Vy (Women 10), Mai Hieu Linh (Women 12), Nguyen Linh Dan (Women). 14), Nguyen Hong Nhung (Female 16), Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong, Pham Tran Gia Thu (Female 18), Nguyen Quang Minh (Male 10), Dinh Nho Kiet (Male 12) and An Dinh Minh (Male 14).

In 8 out of 10 groups, Vietnam has at least one representative that qualified for the qualifying round. In the remaining two groups including Men 16 and 18, Vietnam has no representative in the top 30.

The highest position of the Vietnamese player in the qualifying round is number one, belonging to Thuy Duong in the 18-year-old Women’s group. Thuy Duong scored nine points, one point ahead of the second, Aliaksandra Tarasenka.

The World Online Young Chess Cup takes place from August 1 to August 30, in the fast chess format. The tournament is divided into two rounds: the Swiss system qualifying round, and the knockout round final. Qualifiers take place from August 1 to August 20, divided into 10 groups by age, 5 groups of men, 5 groups of women.

In each group, 10 players who pass the qualifying round will join 6 players invited to the final round. Players are invited based on the standard Elo of June 2021, and Vietnam is unlikely to have anyone invited.

The final round takes place from August 26 to August 30, each day of the competition starts at 10 pm, Hanoi time. Time for each game in the final round is 15 minutes, adding 10 seconds after each move.
